Case Studies
This page contains three case studies developed for DSCI 200. Each case study focuses on a distinct set of topics from the course, providing students with an opportunity to apply key concepts in a real-world context. The case studies are designed to be completed in sequence, aligning with the progression of topics in DSCI 200.
Case Study 1: From Exploration to Design Investigates how to ask and refine questions with data, apply sampling strategies and assess study design choices to draw valid conclusions.
Case Study 2: Simulation, Missing Data and Outliers
Explores how simulation can inform analysis, how to detect and address missing data and how to evaluate the impact of outliers on results.Case Study 3: Data Acquisition, Ownership and Privacy
Focuses on the practical and ethical issues in obtaining data, including working with APIs, web scraping, and parquet files, as well as considerations related to data ownership and privacy.
